The much-anticipated production of the new Jaguar XE has officially began at the Wolverhampton & Solihull plants, creating £4 billion of work for companies across the UK.
The full scale operation will include the production of Jaguar’s Ingenium four cylinder engine which will power the first of the new Jaguar XEs as they roll of the production line. Later in the year the new Land Rover Discovery Sport will also go into production at the Wolverhampton plant, also powered by the Ingenium engine. JLR announced last year that it was taking on around 200 more people as it geared up for this engine production and the need for further staff will continue to grow for many years. It is anticipated that 1,500 will work at the Wolverhampton factory.
Across the other side of the Midlands, production of the new Jaguar XE’s aluminium body will take place at JLR’s Solihull plant where another 1,300 automotive engineers are being recruited. The Solihull site normally produces Land Rovers and Range Rovers, but will this year make way for the highly anticipated XE. As well as the investment in the Wolverhampton & Solihull plant, JLR has also recently announced further investment by doubling the size of it’s plant in Whitley and pumping £450 million into it’s Castle Bromwich’s site. All this further strengthens JLR position in the West Midlands and the rest of the UK.
