Assystem Technologies and its affiliates relaunch under a new brand. 18 months after taking over the operations of Assystem SA’s Global Product Solutions division, and following a series of acquisitions in 2018 including SQS – an industry leading quality partner for digital business, the organisation becomes Expleo.

To help businesses harness technological change, Expleo offers access to sector-specific expertise and best practice across consultancy and business agility, product design, production and in-service support, as well as continuous quality. This unmatched service portfolio reflects the changing needs of the market where engineering and software are becoming increasingly intertwined.

Winning the technology race

Technology is changing all legacy business models, across industries and geographies. All companies are becoming technology-enabled businesses. The coming decade will see an unparalleled pace and scope of business transformation driven by technological change, bringing both uncertainty and opportunity.

Olivier Aldrin, CEO of Expleo, stated: “All businesses are in a technology race. They need to transform their operating model by securing access to both leading-edge technologies and deep industry knowledge. We have made a bold move to help our clients win this race by becoming Expleo, a new breed of technology partner that offers end-to-end, integrated engineering, quality services and management consulting for digital transformation. Our new brand reflects our ambition to be the trusted partner that our clients need to rapidly deliver innovation at scale.”

Ambitious growth perspectives

A truly global company with 15,000 people in more than 25 countries, Expleo leverages a complementarity of cultures rooted in strong Franco-German ties. It combines a scalable and cost-effective global delivery model connecting clients with experts locally and from bestshore excellence centres.

Expleo’s ambition is to pursue its growth organically and through acquisitions. The Group plans to further expand its footprint, notably in Germany, North America and India. In India, Expleo aims to quickly double in size, and reach more than 5,000 employees in the next few years.

A new brand capturing the right balance of boldness and reliability

As the Group opens a new chapter in its history, the name Expleo conveys the idea of exploring fresh opportunities and expanding horizons. It expresses a bold and confident vision of the future, a willingness to act innovatively. In Latin, Expleo means “to complete” and “to satisfy”, indicating a job well done and a sense of achievement.

Within the current climate of unrelenting change, businesses need both specialist expertise and creativity that will give them the confidence to take calculated risks. They need trusted and accountable partners by their side. Expleo’s people rise to this challenge, combining flair and rigour, making ingenuity and vigilance work together. This critical balance is captured in the Group’s new name but also in its tagline “Think bold, act reliable”.

The Expleo logo’s graphic motif is called “the Lens”. It symbolises Expleo people’s vision and the contribution they make, embedded within clients’ teams.

UK car manufacturing chart

Best year in a decade for UK car manufacturing

  • UK car manufacturing reaches 10-year high, growing 3.9% to 1,587,677 vehicles

  • More cars exported than ever before, up 2.7% on previous year at 1,227,881

  • Domestic production suggest 8.1% to 359,796 to meet increasing demand for British-built cars

  • EU demand grows 11.3%, with 57.5% of exports destined for the continent.

  • US overtakes China as UK’s largest export destination, with demand up by a quarter.

These are the latest figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturer and Traders (SMMT). British manufacturer made more cars in 2015 than any year since 2005 when 1,595,697 vehicles were produced.

A record number of cars – representing 77.3% of total production – was for export, with 1,227,881 units leaving the UK, up 2.7% on 2014 levels. Challenges were experienced in some global markets such as China, where demand fell by 37.5%, and Russia, where export volumes declined 69.4%. However, the economic recovery in Europe, the UK’s biggest trading partner, boosted demand for UK-built cars considerably by 11.3% in 2015. The region now accounts for 57.5% of all UK car exports.

Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive, said, “Despite export challenges in some key markets such as Russia and China, foreign demand for British-built cars has been strong, reaching record export levels in the past year. Achieving these hard fought for results is down to vital investment in the sector, world class engineering and a committed and skilled UK workforce – one of the most productive in the world.

“Continued growth in an intensely competitive global marketplace is far from guaranteed, however, and depends heavily on global economic conditions and political stability. Europe is our biggest trading partner and the UK’s membership of the European Union is vital for the automotive sector in order to secure future growth and jobs.”

Jaguar Land Rover in negotiations to buy Silverstone

Jaguar Land Rover in negotiations to buy Silverstone

Jaguar Land Rover has reportedly made a bid for the home of British Motorsport, Silverstone, thought to be valued at almost £23 million.

The West Midlands car giant is in negotiations to secure the site with major plans on the horizon, including a five-star hotel, a Jaguar Land Rover heritage centre & motor industry museum.

According to the Coventry Telegraph, a source close to Jaguar Land Rover said: “They have been trying to buy Silverstone for a while now. Talks are still ongoing and the deal isn’t sealed yet.”

“They are interested in it for testing cars and the Motorsport side.”

Recent comments made by Silverstone’s managing director a few months ago suggested that the racing circuit was at risk without major investment on the race track. The news that Jaguar Land Rover are in a position to take over the site has been welcomed by automotive sector experts, claiming JLR could attract enthusiasts from around the world.

A spokesman for Jaguar Land Rover said: “Jaguar Land Rover continually looks to invest and grow its business operations in the UK. We constantly evaluate a wide range of opportunities which are confidential.

Jaguar Land Rover to double Wolverhampton Engine Plant and create new jobs

Jaguar Land Rover has announced plans to double the size of its Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton as part of a 450 million-pound expansion programme.

The total investment in the site which now stands at 1 billion pounds, represents the global demand for Jaguar Land Rover’s engines, most notably the Ingenium TD4 diesel engine. The Ingenium engine launched initially in the Jaguar XE in April 2015 and was quickly followed by the new Discovery Sport, two of the most significant product launches from the British manufacturer accounting for sales of 65,800 in the year so far.

Mark Wright, executive director of Jaguar Land Rover, told the BBC the plant was “absolutely pivotal” to the company’s plans for global expansion.

“As we grow our volumes around the world we need more capacity,” he said. “We’ve started the initial phase just 12 months ago, that’s gone really well, and we’re now planning for the next phase for the next two or three years.”

The announcement will also lead to the creation of several new jobs at the Centre, in a move which will see Jaguar Land Rover’s global workforce hit 40,000 by next year.
